The psychological index is a reference on how much stress a character can take before breaking down. It is only based on the will of the character and it does not get better with time. Examples for what can make people break down is such things that are stressing or otherwise hard, especially in combat, for example being fired upon, seeing ones comrades get wounded or killed, getting shot, laying under a artillery barrage etc.
The character start recover this value as soon as he is away all that, and can relax, for example at home or at a base camp, resting, sleeping a full nights sleep etc. Below is a table that is giving some examples how it can get modified.
| Psychological index | Losses |
|---|---|
| Being fired upon | -1D3 |
| Fired upon with suppressive fire | -1D6 |
| Grenade exploding close | -1D6 |
| Laying under an artillery barrage | -2D6 |
| Being wounded | -1D6 to 3D6 |
| Being outnumbered or surrounded | -2D6 |
| Attacked by gas or similar | -3D6 |
| Being taken prisoner | -1D6 |
| Seeing a comrade get shot | -2D6 |
| Seeing a comrade get killed | -3D6 |
| Seeing a comrade taken prisoner | -2D6 |
Every time a character looses more then 20% of his PI he looses
some permanently too. Before he starts regaining anything he should lower his total PI
with 10% of the amount lost.
Example: If a character has a value of 50 in Pi and he looses a total of 20 points
(40% of his total). Before he will start regaining anything he will lower his Total PI
(50) with 10% of 20 (2pts) and his new total is 48.
| Psychological Index | Recovery |
|---|---|
| Each full nights sleep | 2 |
| Each uneventful day at home or camp | 2 |
| Being taken care of in hospital od | 5 |
| Doing good deeds, ie helping someone | 1D6-2D6 |
