KAMAN

By Drac

A land in the southeast of Saralis, it is a very big country, comparable only to Saral in sheer size, but much more desolate and inhospitable.

One of the smaller countries in the Saralis politics but large at the size, Kaman has been a own state for almost 1000 years, before that it was a part of Nowam.

Due to the small amount of natural resources it has not many enemies, the only thing there are much of are the herds of animals that graze the moors.

Geography

The northern reaches are made up with moors, east and south have been tormented by the winds from the sea for many millennia's

To the size it is one of the largest countries in Saralis, but much of it consists of harsh moors and wind-tormented coast. It's neighboring to Nowam in the north and to Arran in the west, in the south and east is the sea.

Capital

Walds, 7.000 inh. Located on the northern coast of Lakyran and has a very tough climate.

The city in itself are of a very old structure, originally from the second era, but during the years the ancient stone structures have been worn down, and new buildings have been added. The skills of stone carving have almost been lost so the repairs and new buildings are of wood or brick. Giving the city a very old and patched appearance.

Regent

As the old tradition, Kaman is still ruled by a council of 3 merchants and 2 priests. It is the only country in Saralis who doesn't have Feudalism.

Ordra: Merchant. Head of the largest merchant family in Kaman, and head of the council.

Janus Vena: Priest.

Marla Uras: Merchant.

Gareth: Merchant.

Erhard: Priest.

Other city's

Skelda

1.700 Inhabitants, The other major city in Kaman, although not as big it is a important trade center and timber community, also it is close to the mining camps. The mountains are rich of gold and the major income for the entire country.

It is neighboring Arran, and has had many struggles about the borders in that rich area. It has an important military position.

Arna

1.100 peoples live there, some more in the market seasons. Arna is a couple of hundred years old City, from the days when Kaman was a larger trade nation. It looks a bit worn down, but the buildings are of stone so they are fully livable still.

In the outskirts of the city are lots of farms, and small villages.

Military

Mostly militia trained once every other year in Arna or Skelda. Due to the hard terrain the country have never been so threatened by it's neighbors. The militia is well trained and has large exercises every spring.

The only real army is in the cities; the army consists of heavy infantry and is handpicked from the best of the militia.

Kaman like all other countries in Saralis also have Nobility, while not in power like the other countries, they still have professional armies and are an important part of the defense of Kaman.

The merchants also have an impressive fleet, one of the largest in Saralis. To defend the only major income in the country the merchants have been forced to build up a fleet that is able to defend the country.

Religion

The major religions are of course the lords of Orhan, especially Kuor and Valris. But the land also has another divinity. Baroc, the god of the moors, a herding and war god, not related to any other.

History

In most years Kaman have been neutral in the politics in Saralis, they didn't have any offensive army so they have taken no initiatives of offence themselves.

The only war they have been involved in the past hundred years is small border struggles with Arran about the province between them.

In recent time Kaman have secretly been aiding the rebels of Nowam in return for the lending of ships from the escaped fleet. Most of the aid consists in food shipments to the swamp in the north, but there have also been several volunteers from Kaman, who have been participating in the battles.
